Day 36: Paxton's first visitor!

When Susanne got to the hospital today, Paxton's nurse informed her that when she switched his ECG leads on his chest she noticed an abnormal rhythm. The nurse ordered a 12 lead ECG to evaluate the electrical activity of his heart more thoroughly. The cardiologist determined that it was something called a right bundle branch block. Unbeknowst to Susanne, this had intermittently shown up on his ECG prior to surgery. This finding was nothing to be concerned about because this change was to be expected with his diagnosed heart condition, Ebstein's anomaly. That was great news.
The nurse also informed Susanne that Paxton would be moving once again, but this time within the same unit. Paxton was originally put in a room that allowed for more close evaluation since he had recently come from the PICU. Since he was doing so well he was able to move to his final destination before he would be allowed to go home. Luckily, Paxton had a bigger space than before and he was close to a window which helped to brighten up the room. Paxton still had to share his new room with another patient, but Paxton was okay with that because he likes to make new friends.
Paxton had a speech therapy appointment today and he did very well. He has really caught on to the whole suckling concept. Way to go Paxton! The plan was to continue to increase his feeds to make sure he could tolerate the amount he should be receiving. If he continued to be successful with this, then they would consider moving his NJ-tube to a NG-tube which would allow them to switch over to bolus feedings.
The best news of the day was when the nurse told Susanne that the visitation restrictions had been lifted. This was exciting because Paxton had never even met his grandparents. The first chance Susanne got, she called her parents and Scott's parents. Paxton's first visitor was Moppy, Scott's mother. Paxton was so excited to finally meet his grandmother who has been his number one fan since the day he was born. Moppy was able to hold Paxton for hours and give him good quality snuggle time. Paxton was very well behaved and loved the attention. What a touching moment. Paxton cannot wait to meet the rest of the family.
