First Mother's Day

Today was a monumental day for Susanne. She was celebrating her first Mother's Day. She had so many emotions running through her throughout the day. Scott and Susanne spent a lot of time reflecting on the past few months of their lives and the road that it took to get them to where they were today. Looking back, they could see that they had come such a long way. In the beginning, it took them such a long time for them to even get pregnant that they did not even know if they would ever be able to celebrate being parents at all. During the pregnancy, there were a lot of ups and downs, however, they remained strong through it all. Once Paxton was born, their whole world was turned upside down. They could have never predicted the rough start to parenthood. They had never worried so much about one thing in their lives like they had about Paxton. Everyday he was alive was a small victory for them. Paxton fought for his life and proved to everyone that he had a will to live. The happiest day, by far, was when Paxton got to finally come home. This was when Susanne really started feeling like a real mother. Since Scott was still away on his internship, Susanne and Paxton were left to fend for themselves. They developed quite a deep bond during that time. Susanne was with Paxton every second of every day watching his every move...his every breath. She never took one moment for granted. Throughout the last few months, she had been able to experience what it meant to be a mother. She now knew what it felt like to protect and provide for her young. She would stand in harm's way if anyone threatened her baby. Her mother's instinct was impeccable. Her only wish was that someone could guarantee that Paxton would beat the odds and live a long, happy life. People always say that parents do not want to outlive their children and this, Susanne knew was true. Paxton was the light of Susanne's life and the star in her sky. He was so amazing already even with only being three months old. Susanne could not think of a more precious gift on mother's day than having her sweet precious baby boy at home with her to help celebrate. He was a miracle from God and she felt blessed to call him her own.

In celebration of Susanne's motherhood, Scott made her a special dinner. He made Susanne her favorite meal with some minor adjustments, of course, to fit her diet restrictions. He made chicken quesadillas on the grill without the queso. He made homemade guacamole without too much spice. They had Mountain Dew-tini's without the caffeine and best of all, dairy free and soy free brownies for dessert. What a special treat. Susanne got a beautiful rose with a touching card. It was a perfect end to a perfect evening. To top it all off, he also decided to take all of Paxton's overnight feedings so Susanne could get some rest. Yippee!
