Phone Calls, Phone Calls, and More Phone Calls

Today, Susanne spent the entire day making one phone call after another. She was still trying to iron out the multiple problems that she was having with her health insurance company. One would think that after more than ten phone calls to the company, someone would have been able to help solve the issues that Susanne was having. It sure did not seem that way. Susanne also continued on her search for a feeding team to help Paxton, whether it be a speech therapist, occupational therapist, or someone else. She even went to the extreme of calling Children's Hospital of Philadelphia to talk with someone from the department that deals soley with children that have something called velo-cardio-facial syndrome. This is a genetic disorder that is related to DiGeorge's syndrome, which was what they originally thought Paxton had. Luckily, the genetics testing had been within normal limits. These children typically have a congenital heart defect, facial developmental issues such as a cleft palate or lip, and an underdeveloped thymus and parathyroid gland. Paxton's pediatrician thought that this would be a good path to take since these children deal with similar challenges that Paxton was dealing with. Unfortunately, she still came up short. The woman she spoke with indicated that they usually refer these patients to a clinic in New Jersey. Once again, no one was capable of helping Paxton. After all of the phone calls that Susanne made today, she was left with a new list of phone numbers to call. She would have to do these another day.
