Day 2

It was nice to wake up in our own bed, but difficult to be away from Paxton. We got up and made it over to the hospital to see Paxton where we were greeted by a line of people waiting to speak with us. It quickly became overwhelming as person after person bombarded us with information. Discussions regarding Paxton's conditions, as well as the multiple treatment options and potential surgeries he would need became difficult to process, especially with us being first time parents. It helped a lot that Susanne has a medical background, but that did not help much with the emotional component.
To make matters worse, Paxton was placed in isolation due to his being transferred from another hospital. We hadn't yet been allowed to hold or touch our baby boy and now we were required to wear rubber gloves and gowns to even get close to his isolette (the plastic "bubble" incubator that babies are in while staying in the NICU).
The stress of the situation made both of us emotionally sensitive and even minor things seemed overwhelming and difficult to handle.
Coming home tonight without a baby was not any easier than last night. In fact, it was worse.
