April Fools

After Scott left to go back to Pennsylvania this morning, Susanne got a call from the pediatrician. The doctor was able to get in touch with the gastroenterologist that evaluated Paxton in the hospital. They discussed the positive test results and both thought that it could be from the aspirin he was taking or from his NG tube causing some minor irritation. This was interesting because this was what Susanne and Scott had asked the doctors about when Paxton was in the hospital. At that time, they did not think that these could be potential causes of the positive test results. Unfortunately, the actual cause for the microscopic amounts of blood in the stool was still unknown, but the pediatrician decided to go ahead and have Susanne switch Paxton to fortified breast milk. She felt comfortable with this decision because his stool did not have any visible blood in it and he was doing so well clinically. Susanne had to make sure that this was not an April Fools prank before she got too excited. After being reassured that this was the final plan, Susanne jumped up and down with joy. She thought this was the best news ever, especially since both of the deep freezers were completely full.

Later in the afternoon, Paxton's nurse stopped by to reassess how he was doing. She thought that he overall looked good. His weight was a little down compared to what it had been at the pediatrician's office the day before. He weighed 7 lb 6 oz on her scale. The nurse was not too concerned because there can be some variance between scales.

Everone in the Padilla household was really excited because Aunt Leenie was coming over to stay the night. They loved when she visited. She was so thoughful and picked up a couple of things for her from the store. She even brought Susanne a delicious dinner from Glory Days. What would she do without her. Susanne was touched by how nice the manager at Glory Days had been when she heard about Susanne's diet restrictions. She went out of her way to prepare a meal that was guaranteed to be safe for Susanne to eat. She even went to the extreme of going to Harris Teeter to pick up a salad dressing that was specifically dairy and soy free. She said that she would keep it at the restaurant in case Susanne wanted to dine there in the near future. Nice people rule!

After dinner, Colleen and Susanne gave Paxton his first bath since he had been home. He was so tiny that his bathtub swallowed him whole. They had to make sure that they kept a hand on him at all times.

Before bedtime, Paxton had a couple of late night visitors. Aunt Julie and her mother came by to check up on the little guy. They had a fun time taking pictures and video clips of him. Julie's mother even got to snuggle with Paxton and gave him lots of love.
