I can't think of a title.

Susanne was hoping to use today to recuperate from the last two days and get back on schedule. She wanted to really take the time to focus on working with Paxton on his oral feeding skills. She was frustrated because when she would sit down to work with Paxton on oral feedings, he was not interested at all. Susanne tried a variety of shapes and textures to see if he had a preference for one over the other. She had tried everything from a gloved finger, to the pacifier, to the Haberman bottle, to even straight up nursing. He was onto Susanne. Unfortunately, he hated it all. He was smart enough to anticipate what Susanne was going to do next and boy did he put up a good fight. Susanne was fearing that Paxton was backsliding. This was going to be a long road ahead for both of them.

Susanne was pleasantly surprised when the doorbell rang and it was the delivery man with an arrangement of flowers from some of Susanne's close friends at work. They were so kind to send their deepest sympathies for the loss of Maverick. Everyone knew what a special part of the family he was and it made it a little easier for Susanne to know that they were thinking of her during this difficult time. They, more than anyone, knew how hard it was to lose a loyal companion that was part of the family. Thanks guys.

Susanne was excited that Scott was coming home this evening. She had planned on having a meal that someone had already so kindly prepared for them so that there would not be any wasted time together. This made Susanne's world much easier because this was one last thing to worry about. Thank you Dunlap family. The meal was delicious...especially dessert. Yummy!

It was so good to finally get some news from you guys! I know that your plate is really full already and the added stress of losing Maverick has not helped at all, but remember your NC friends want to know EVERYTHING, even though we can not be there to bring you meals and yummy desserts!

My co-worker just had her first baby who had to be delivered a week or so early. Beth had cholistasis which was affecting her liver and could have caused problems for the baby. The baby, a beautiful little girl, is nursing well, but her bilirubin has not stabilized yet and went up to 16 mg/dl yesterday. The Mom is a lab tech and is taking it all in stride, but I could not help but think of you and Paxton and how blessed my friend is that little Finley's only problem is a high bili that will eventually come down to normal. You are so strong, Susanne! I marvel at the great job that you are doing coping with everything when Scott can not be there for you as much as he would like. I am so thankful that you have Moppy and the wonderful friends that you describe in your posts. Just don't forget that we here in NC are praying for you every day! Love to all! XOXO

HANG IN THERE! The Doctors at Duke kept warning us that feeding can be the hardest part and we didn't believe them because what can be worse than surgery on a newborn and months in the NICU. But, in some aspects, they were right. It's frustrating and sloooooooooow. But, I promise you that it gets better. A year from now, you'll look back and can't believe how bad it used to be. Keep trying. The lightbulb will go off one day.

We have a HUGE box full of failed bottles, sippies, pacis, etc. that Carter didn't like. And now, he's 19 months old and "addicted" to his bottle--he won't even think of drinking milk from a cup!

If you ever need to vent, we're always here. kzmyers@yahoo.com
